British Sign Language Courses (BSL)
- BSL Level 1 training and assessment (CACDP/Signature qualification)
Adhering to the standard CACDP syllabus, gives learners with the fullest opportunity to meet all the required elements of the assessment. Assuming learners have no previous knowledge of BSL, ample time is set aside for practice to develop fluency in BSL with specific regard to expanding their knowledge of every day signs.
The course is delivered by a Deaf tutor in weekly three-hour sessions with a maximum group size of twenty participants. Additionally, because we are not restricted to traditional term terms, training can be tailored to meet the demands of learners.

- BSL Level 2 training and assessment (CACDP/Signature qualification)
This programme is suitable for those who have already undertaken the Level 1 Certificate in British Sign Language and who wish to acquire language skills at an intermediate level to enhance communication with Deaf people and may wish to progress to more advanced levels of study of BSL in the future.
Divided into 3 units, using 4 themes, each unit can be achieved separately; however to achieve the full Level 2 Certificate in British Sign language candidates are required to achieve all units.

- NVQ3 training and assessment (CACDP/Signature qualification)
The NVQ3 BSL (Language) programme is available to both Deaf and hearing professionals.
This award consists of 2 Units; one receptive (entitled B311) and one productive (entitled B312); gives plenty of opportunity to practice skills and collect evidence, and a generous allocation of assessment time allowing learners regular contact with assessors.

- Pre-Level 4 training and assessment (Sign Solutions Accredited)
A total of 6 days training culminating in an Initial Assessment to undertake the Sign Solutions NVQ4 Language (BSL) programme.
The programme is open to Deaf and hearing applicants and focuses on a number of specific aspects of BSL which our evidence and experience have indicated are in need of development before individuals are at the appropriate level to embark on our NVQ4 in BSL programme.

- NVQ4 training and/or assessment (CACDP/Signature qualification)
The NVQ4 BSL (Language) programme is available to both Deaf and hearing professionals. This award consists of 2 Units; one receptive and one productive. Together these units demonstrate an ability to use BSL in a range of work-related settings. Unlike some other Centres, Sign Solutions offer a taught programme which provides training in specific BSL skills areas, including self evaluation. The programme comprises tutor/assessor contact time and includes opportunities to practice skills and to collect some of the range of evidence required (real and simulated) and there is also a generous allocation of assessment time, enabling participants to meet with their assessors at regular intervals.

- BSL Linguistics (Sign Solutions Accredited)
The course provides an introduction to the analysis and description of BSL and is aimed at professionals, both Deaf and hearing, working with BSL and will cover essential linguistic tools. We will discuss the structure and use of BSL at many levels, from the smallest units making up a sign, through the use of mouth patterns and non-manual features, and to the ways that verbs show a range of linguistic information and the issues surrounding sign order in BSL. Sign language storytelling and poetry is another area of focus. By the end of the course, participants will have a clearer understanding of the ways that sign linguistic theory can help describe BSL, and how they can apply this understanding to their daily work with BSL.
